Hi there. I'm Chris Govias.

I'm a designer and have just moved to Ottawa, Canada after ten years in London, UK. I help large and small business, charities, and governments with design thinking and by creating exceptional user experiences and interfaces. I also take photos and occasionally do some writing.

I'm delighted to be the first Chief of Design for the Canadian Digital Service, a new initiative from the Government of Canada to make simple, easy to use services for users. Previously, I was the Head of Design (UX, Interaction & Service Design) for the Ministry of Justice, in the United Kingdom. And before that, I was Design Lead at the world's largest travel company, Expedia.

Experience & Service Design

I've worked across numerous sectors – B2B, B2C, public and government – and designed everything from complex, admin-facing, content management systems to consumer-facing microsites and startups.

Other work

I've always been passionate about typography and letterforms. Hand lettering is the natural extension of those two elements with the addition of artistry – a perfect combination for me.

Up until recently, I also moonlighted (moonlit?) as a commercial photographer in my spare time. My editorial and portrait work led to me shooting a number of advertising campaigns and my food photography has been published in a number of UK publications.
